This is the case of musical instruments:

Firstly we establish this fact: If A is true, then not A is false.

This is so simple, any primary school student can understand it.

This is to say, for example, if 1+1=2, then 1+1= anything other than 2 is false.

So, if the Bible says, we ought to "make melody in our heart" (Eph 5:19), then there making melody with anything other than our heart is false.

So as for the case with teaching... these are references:
1. Mark 16:15 tells us to preach the gospel to every creature.
2. Acts 2, Peter stood up to speak to the audience.
3. In the final chapters of Acts 22, Paul preached in defense of himself.

There may be more, but I shan't quote them. You can take a look at them if u want to. It's mostly in the book of Acts.

Question:
1. What is true, and what is false?
2. What does the Bible teach about how we ought to teach and preach?

Have fun!

This is an interesting discussion. I would ask, how is PowerPoint a conflict? Isn't it just a tool, like the microphones used to broadcast a voice amid a large congregation, or the radio to spread the gospel across the airwaves? I would think the issue would be whether the use of this tool was disruptive to the overall service or somehow usurped the giving of the message, or where inappropriate things might be displayed. For those visually impaired, with macular dengeration, or having physical handicaps that have trouble turning pages, or those hearing impaired who canno't hear the sermon and where sign language providers are not available, having the scripture references and message points displayed is beneficial to them. They can be printed out for those wanting to think about them more carefully to carry away for further study and discussion. Just a thought. I'd welcome further views on this.

I believe that the way to answer many of these "types of questions", one has to study and understand the "nature" of God and what he expects from us. I cannot quote scripture, but I know that in the old testament, the practice of worship in the temple held very strict guidelines from God. Even though instruments of music were allowed to be played outside of and around the temple, they were forbidden to be brought into the temple of worship. I believe this is due to God wanting us to humble ourselves, in our most natural image of him, in our worship to him. Singing to God from our most natural image of him, and purely from our hearts, would only come without the accompaniment of musical instruments. To try and sound our best amongst our fellow worshipers with the aid of instruments only leads to our own self satisfaction or entertainment and takes us away from our focus on God's nature and understanding of worship and what he expects from us when we worship him. The idea of visual aids and audio aids such as microphones and power-point does not fall into the same category as our singing to him in worship. That would seem to me like saying that I should not wear my glasses or my hearing aid into worship because I would not be doing what God wants. Defining crucial differences is so important...splitting hairs is a whole different topic.
In His Love,
Randy

Musical instruments = change of mode = sin

Powerpoint = non change of mode (just another hated visual aid) = not a sin even though I revile it.

I don't think that there is any crime in doing so but as per bible we can't do so.We all believe in bible and we also accept that it is accurate than why we need to change the rules or why we want make ouselves confused. If we believe in bible than we must follow it.

I do agree with you, if we believe in bible than we must follow the rules mentioned in it. Off-course there is not any crime in doing so but there is no meaning of doing that if we believe in bible.

In understanding that a part of worship is singing, it is also understood you must have a song. Most times from a song book, a handy expedient to fulfill this mode of worship. If a song were to appear on a power point or projected image, it also provides a song, JUST LIKE a song book. THE exact same difference is its use in a sermon delivered, so long as the power point, or paper outline, or ministers notes portray the truth as the scriptures intend. Tim

JMO, but although you have the logical equation correct, I believe you have applied and stated your explanation incorrectly.

IF 1 plus 1 equals 2 is true, then 1 plus 1 does not equal 2 is false.

The Bible says singing and making melody in your heart = true, then
Singing and not making melody in your heart = not true.

I'm not a proponent of instruments in worship, but you're not going be able to apply Greek style logical syllogisms to make your point, I think. You'd be better off citing the example of Nadab and Abihu, although that's not a clear cut proof against. Just my opinion.

Why not? Why do we need approval to do these things? To me it's a sign of spiritual immaturity to have to ask approval for everything. If we get to know God and understand his plans for his church, there are much bigger things we ought to be concerned about, such as sharing our faith the outsiders. If it's a sin to use Powerpoint in worship, it's a massively bigger sin to not be evangelizing, and no one is worried about that.
