Patriotic worship?

Postby OnHorseback on Sat Jul 03, 2010 10:13 pm

Do some of the Church of Christ churches in the USA hold "God and Country" or "patriotic" worship services on the Sunday preceding (or on) the 4th of July, Memorial Day and Veterans Day? I know that some Assembly of God, Baptist, Lutheran, Methodist, UNITED Church of Christ churches do, but what about the Church of Christ denomination (descended from the Stone/Campbell movement)?

Thanks.

We should worship the Creator on the Lord's day. We can also be thankful for the blessings of living in our country. This is as far as these activities shoud go.I think David Lipscomb believed the Christian should have nothing to do with government, especially the military. Tim

I do find it strange that in a local church had a sign in their lawn advertising "cult patriotic for Sunday Memorial Day Weekend. Some groups have decided that Christianity and nationalism should be joined together.Patriotic holidays are more than picnics and fireworks. Celebrate the freedom of religion and recognize the hand of God in the history of our nation.

Your sentence grammatically does not make sense. It is unclear from your words what the sign said.

I wonder how the first century Christians would feel about extolling the virtues of their own pagan nation Rome during a worship assembly.
